Carville Primary School

Commissioned by the Laing Art Gallery to collaborate with students at Carville primary school, to create a piece of artwork for exhibition at the gallery. Inspired by the North East shipping industry and Turner's painting 'The Fighting Temeraire' we made three large tiled walls and three large sustainably made ships. Using air drying clay and acrylic paint to make tiled walls, as well as scarp materials, cardboard and recyclable materials to create the three ships. Participants also experienced using oil pastels to replicate Turners artwork, creating their own sculptured ships from clay, learning different drawing skills and even a visit to the gallery to see Turners work on exhibition.

Hazelwood Primary School - Summer Carnival

To coincide with Hazelwood Primary schools’ summer carnival, we designed a range of paper crafts to fit with the theme, this included making hats, bunting, horse carousels, circus tents and masks.

The workshop was aimed to provide an easy, fun and all-inclusive morning of simple crafts. We provided a variety of different materials to inspire and help create unique pieces for the students to take home or use in their school’s carnival.

Participants were shown a crash course in basic art materials and ways to use them to produce simple yet effective results. Practices included drawing and shading, one point perspective, still life drawing with charcoal and pastels, landscape painting with watercolours and acrylics. As well as the practical aspect of the day there was also demonstrations, resources and plenty of time for discussion of ideas for the school year ahead.
